CHASING THE WRONG THING: FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL

Too many people I talk to waste their energy chasing the wrong thing, comparing themselves to others, getting caught up in what they think success looks like, or focusing on things they have zero control over. The truth is, real progress comes when you shift your focus inward and lock in on what’s right in front of you.

Social media makes this harder than ever. Every day, we see people posting their “perfect” lives, highlight reels of success, luxury, and achievement. But what we don’t see is the grind, the setbacks, and the struggles that come with it.

The problem isn’t social media itself

It’s how we let it affect our mindset. If you’re constantly measuring yourself against someone else’s curated reality, you’re chasing something that isn’t even real.

Here’s the hard truth: you can’t control what others do, what they have, or how they got there. But you can control your own effort, your mindset, and how you show up every single day. Instead of worrying about someone else’s life, focus on what you’re building.

  • Your work ethic is yours. No one can take that from you.
  • Your discipline is yours. That’s what will separate you from the pack.
  • Your mindset is yours. It will either push you forward or hold you back.

So ask yourself, are you putting in the work, or are you too busy watching someone else live their life? Are you moving with purpose, or are you letting distractions dictate your direction?

Success isn’t about luck

It’s not about trying to match someone else’s journey. It’s about winning the day in front of you, stacking consistent effort, and staying locked in on your own path. That’s how real progress is made. That’s how greatness is built.

Stop chasing the wrong thing. Focus on what you can control, and everything else will fall into place.
